Sleep is the best meditation.

~ Dalai Lama ~

I have three posts running through my head, along with a half dozen other projects.  Everything is percolating in a big way and nothing is coming out.  And trying hard will only make matters worse – I’ve learned that much.

So I am going to take my own advice and head to bed early, let all the muddy waters settle and hope to wake with a great deal of clarity.  In any case, I’m taking care of myself.  It’s been a long time coming, but I think I’m getting the concept now!

How about you?

Take good care…

Stress is basically a disconnection
from the earth,
a forgetting of the breath.
Stress is an ignorant state.
It believes that everything is an emergency.
Nothing is that important.
Just lie down.

~ Natalie Goldberg ~

So breathe.
Connect to the earth, and to your self, your soul.
Not much is an actual emergency.
And no thing is that important,
except for you.

Take good care of you, my friend.
Take good care.

Closing time…

Closing time, time for you to go out to the places you will be from…

Closing time, every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end…

Here’s the deal. It’s summer. It’s hot (by the way, my rule is that the outside temp should not exceed our body temperature and I, for one, think that’s a great rule). In the midst of it all, I find myself needing some white space, some peace and quiet and a change of pace. I think we all need that from time to time, no matter how much – and maybe especially when – we love what we do.

Time away, even from this wonderful place where I meet you every day. After posting for well over 200 days straight, it’s time for a little vacation. I’ve finally convinced myself that no matter how much I truly enjoy being here, it is in the best interest of all involved for me to step away from the keyboard, folks, and that’s what I am going to do.

I’m actually taking a full digital sabbatical for ten days, at least – that’s right, no email, internet (including Google in any form), Twitter – the whole thing. There is debate in my household about whether or not I will be able to achieve that unplugged state, but I’m going to try, really try. As grateful as I am for all these things that George Jetson only dreamed of, I am fully aware of my addiction to technology. And for part of the time, I will be on my First Ever Writer’s Retreat, going old school with paper and pens, so I’m hoping I’ll be able to just focus on the right here and the right now. Full immersion. I can’t wait.

We’ll see how I fare. I’ll miss you. And you, well, if you go to the main Carry It Forward site and click on FAQs, there is an Archive button. There’s lots to keep you company there!

I hope you’ll find some time to make some space for yourself in these dog days of summer. Find a place that holds some peace for you mentally and just chill, literally and figuratively. Whatever floats your boat, but make that time for you.

I’ll see you here in August… if you want to be sure not to miss anything, just fill in the email subscription box on the right and you’ll know when I’m back!

We’ll start fresh from there.

Time to rest…

True silence is the rest of the mind; it is to the spirit what sleep is to the body,
nourishment and refreshment.
